Jermaine Dupri Promises Mariah/Janet Duet On New Album

Earlier this month, Jermaine Dupri demonstrated he's a true showman by bringing out Mariah Carey and Janet Jackson during his set at the Summer Jam radio festival in New Jersey. Now, Dupri is thinking about how to pull the ultimate trump card and get the two legends on the same song.

In April, Carey hinted that she was very open to the collaboration (see
"Mariah Down To Work With Janet; Eve's Loss Is Busta's Gain"). "He never talked to me about that, but if Jermaine has a concept, we should go and write something," she told MTV Radio. "I love Janet. I've been a big fan of Janet since 'Con-tro-ol!'

"On Friday, JD said he is, in fact, developing an idea for Carey and his longtime girlfriend to do it up right on a song.

"It's gonna happen on this record," he said about the collaboration. "Please believe that. I got a mean idea, so look for it. We definitely gonna do a repackage on [Janet's 20 Years Old] once it comes out. Hopefully it's successful and people buy into it, then I'm going back in the studio.

"What happened was, when I was working with Janet, I got into the zone. This was my first time ever working with her. When I get into my zone with artists, I just want to create and create and create. That's what happened with me and Mariah [on The Emancipation of Mimi]. We don't run outta ideas; we keep coming up with sh--. The closer I get to that idea [for Janet and Mariah], the more I know where it should be at. It's feeling like it's gonna happen."Dupri also said the Janet and Mariah record — if he pulls it off — could appear on the initial run of 20 Years Old.

"It depends on how quick my mind moves," he said. "We're mixing records for [20 Years Old]. We're not done yet. When I did Usher's My Way album, the last record I created was 'You Make Me Wanna ... .' I'm thinking I might go back in, and I might tamper with it. ... We gotta try to figure it out."

JD hopes to have the Janet and Mariah duet mapped out and recorded before Carey goes on tour this summer. Dupri also said he's accepted Mariah's invite to go out on the road with her. He won't be at every single date, but he promises to pop up here and there and support his homie.

"I'mma go to the hot spots," he said of the tour. "She's going to Miami first. I'm definitely gonna be at that show. I'm definitely gonna be in New York, in Atlanta. That's my partner. Whatever she needs me to do, I'm there."

When he's not onstage, Jermaine already has a full plate of production scheduled for the rest of the year. He's working on a slew of his So So Def artists, including Johnta Austin, Manish Man, T. Waters and Young Capone. Bow Wow's next album is on Dupri's to-do list, as are records from 3LW, JoJo, Ludacris, Young Jeezy, Frankie J, Bone Thugs-N-Harmony, Nelly, Usher ("We gonna start on his record at the end of the year") and Mariah Carey once she gets off tour.

Janet's JD-produced "Call on Me," is the first single from the September 26 release 20 Years Old, and made its official debut Tuesday (June 20).

"It's a duet between her and Nelly," Dupri said. "It's the jump-off. It's really just a record about when you need a friend, somebody you need to talk to, just call on a person. It's a friend record. It ain't really a boyfriend/girlfriend record. The way Nelly and Janet is talking is more girlfriend/boyfriend, but it really goes out to friends."

Nelly being a close friend of JD made him a perfect candidate to rap on the song. Well, that and the fact that Nelly and Dupri have a super-smash under their belts already.

"Nelly, I try to do what I do with my friends," Dupri explained. "Me and him had just come off the success of 'Grillz' at the time I made this record. He was the person on my mind. "Especially since Janet only made records, not to disrespect Q-Tip or Heavy D, but as far as popular rappers in this day and time, Busta Rhymes was the only one. We was trying to go to the radio and not do the typical R&B featured record. I was trying to be more creative and find somebody who can do melody as well as rap on the record. Nelly don't really rap on this song, he's singing. He has that different style. That's kind of what the record is. We see that enough: R&B with a rapper feature. That's why I call this a duet as opposed to a feature."

With new singer/rapper collaborations in abundance, like Beyoncé and Jay-Z's "Deja Vu" and Ciara and Chamillionaire's "Get Up," JD said he really wanted Janet and Nelly to have their own lane.

"I never really pay attention to anybody else's record when I'm doing what I'm doing," he said. "I was just trying to give her the look she hasn't had in a minute. That would be both an incredible look on TV as well as a star moment, as well as a big record on radio. That's all the elements I was putting into making this record. We don't just have a record that's just a Nelly and Janet record. I believe this record is gonna be one of the biggest records on radio this year. Outside of who it is, it's a well-put-together song."

Missy Elliott to star in her own life story

Studio has acquired a pitch from scribe Dianne Houston based on Elliott's life. Robert De Niroand Jane Rosenthal are on board to produce through their Gothambased Tribeca Films shingle along with Elliott's manager Mona Scott. Project is currently untitled.

Houston came up with the idea and took it to Scott, who helped flesh it out with the scribe and Elliott. Houston then took the project to longtime friend Rosenthal. Tribeca has a first-look
deal with Universal.

Elliott has been in business with Universal before: She had a role in the Jessica Alba starrer "Honey."

The deal for her biopic follows films based on two of rap's biggest male names, 50 Cent("Get Rich or Die Tryin'") and Eminem ("8 Mile")
. Universal distributed the latter.

Born in Portsmouth, Va., in 1971, Elliott began her musical career with the girl group Sista. She then segued to a producing career before breaking out as a solo artist more than 10 years ago. Elliott writes and produces much of her own music.

Houston received an Oscar nom for her work on the short film "Tuesday Morning Ride." She penned the recent release "Take the Lead" and sold a pitch to Participant Prods. titled "Zoot," based on the life story of Zoot Valasco.

Review of Beyonce's new album and full clip of new single

Artist : Beyonce
Album : B'Day
Rating : 4/5
Release Date : September 5, 2006
Label : Sony BMG Music Entertainment
Single : "Deja Vu" ft. Jay-Z
Producer(s) : Beyonce Knowles, Rich Harrison, Rodney Jerkins, Swizz Beatz, Sean Garrett, The Neptunes

While basking in the release of a new movie, "Dreamgirls" this december, Golden girl Beyonce prepares for the release of her sophmore effort "B'Day" this september. Holding tons of funky horns, loud riffs and sassy lyrics, "B'Day" is shaping up to be this years' hottest fall release with production from heavy-hitters The Neptunes, Rich Harrison, Darkchild & Swizz Beatz. The Lead single "Deja Vu," being rush released due to airplay in Houston, L.A., and New York is turning out to be a radio burner with it's soaring trumpets, thumping bassline and simple yet catchy lyrics from Beyonce. With tracks like "Ring The Alarm," she belts out pure seduction on layers of sirens over a bass-heavy beat. "Freedom Dress" can easily be "Crazy In Love pt. II" with it's cowbells and the club feel of the track. On tracks like, "Give It To Momma," she demands her respect and gets what she wants over a pure funky beat, think cowbells, congos, bongos and chants like "the infamous uh-oh". There's also collaborations from her boyfriend, rapper/beau Jay-Z on songs like first single, "Deja Vu" and also a track penned and co-produced by writer Sean Garrett with Swizz Beats, "Hottest Chick In The Game" tells the world just who Beyonce is, or shall I say "Sasha". In fact, Beyonce's sophmore effort is all about demanding respect as a female and the teachings of working what you've got! Spoiler? Yeah right.

Full version, I believe this was produced by Rodney Jerkins, I was told. This is her first single from her new album titled B'Day, which is in stores in September.

Young Jeezy-Inspiration: Thug Motivation 102

Forget whatever you did last night - Young Jeezy was in the studio writing rhymes to Timbaland beats in one room, working with Just Blaze in another, and having Keyshia Cole re-record vocals to their collab track in a third. All in the course of finishing up this fall's crazily anticipated Inspiration: Thug Motivation 102. We got to hear some tracks from it in the company of the Snowman yesterday, and give you the rundown after the jump.

"Hypnotized," perhaps Shawty Redd's most goth-ed out beat yet. Overdriven, heaven vs. hell synthesizers and quadruple-time hihats provide a bed for Jeezy's whispers (and absolutely massive, screwed-down backing vocals). Even though many of the new tracks we heard stretch away from Jeezy's debut blueprint, there's more than enough songs like "Hypnotized" to satisfy the Lets Get It faithful. 60+ have been recorded so far, and the plan is to take 14 for the album and save the best of the rest for a follow-up to DJ Drama's You Can't Ban The Snowman mixtape.

"Bury Me A G", a Pac-referencing, soul-sampling cut where Jeezy envisions his own death and bellows "Bury me in Evisu jeans, a USDA top and a throwaway glock" on the chorus.

A new Akon collaboration, although the song Jeezy calls "Soul Survivor Pt 2" isn't that one, but his track with Keyshia Cole - which, even though we only heard a snippet of the demo version, can say that it lives up to his hype.

"She Can Get It", a Scott Storch-produced "girl song" with TI on assist. Jeezy is skeptical about heading into this territory, even for just one song - and although "She Can Get It" isn't bad at all, we're pretty skeptical too - but having TI on the song definitely helps. "That's already Tip's lane," Jeezy says. "So why not do it with him?" He went on to tell us about an "even crazier" club track recorded with Ne-Yo and Ludacris. "I played that for my people, and they we're like, you cannot put this out!"

"Black Bandanna", which, between it's gruff, catchy chorus and guitar sample, made Jeezy remark "This one's gonna get the white kids putting their rag up!"

A "west coast" song with Snoop that isn't G-Funk, but a cinematic ride-out track (think purple Michael Mann sunsets) that's smooth as fuck while still keeping a uneasy, menacing feel throughout - to our ears, this is perhaps the best example of Jeezy trying new sonics but keeping the same Trapper Of The Year charm that made us love him in the first place.

Preview Nelly Furtado's Loose

Nelly Furtado’s greatest strength has always been her musical versatility.

On Loose, the folksy blend of styles that made the Portuguese-Canadian pop chanteuse famous is still there. But this time, most of the Timbaland-produced tracks sound like ’80s throwbacks, with techno synths and new-age chorals added for good measure. And while she loses herself in Gwen Stefani–like posturing, as on “Glow,” and ethnic fusions like “No Hay Igual” or “Te Busque,” Furtado masterfully combines Spanish and pop influences in her own unique way. For this artist, it’s always been about finding the perfect mix.
